Studio? What Studio?

Hi everyone...I've been reading other people's blogs, and I see many photos and posts about people's studios...The places they've carved out for themselves where they can create.  I have a book that features women's creative spaces, and one of them is a carriage house on the woman's estate...Yes, an entire carriage house!
Let's face it, I'm a little jealous.  I love my home, and I'm not trying to complain here, and have you feel sorry for me...I'm not rich by any means, but I'm not poor either.  But I think I am jealous when I see these incredible studios that people have.  My family is getting the most use out of every square inch of our home.  My two kids each have their own room at this point, but for two or three years, my son actually used part of our living room, separated by a large curtain, as his room.  (He didn't have friends over very much during that time)...Since then, my wonderful husband, Greg, has remodeled our basement, adding a beautiful bedroom and bathroom for our son, who is now seventeen.
My husband and I each have our own business, and my husband's  "office" is a small area in our basement.  My "studio" is now the room that has been carved out of our living room.  I didn't bother hanging up a curtain.  I simply arranged the furniture in such a way that it's obvious that my area is separate from the rest of the living room.
No, it's not ideal, but it's mine.  There's a big picture window on one side, and a smaller window on the other, and I've tried to make my mark on it, and surround myself with beautiful, inspiring things, that no one else has to like.  Sometimes I do wish it were a more detached part of the house, (carriage house?), but it's what I have, and it's enough.  We aren't the type of people who will be building "our dream home", so this is it.  I love my home, even though it's not as big as some, because it's mine, and it's good enough... My mom says, "God's will is at least partially expressed by what you can afford"...So, I'm going to try not to be jealous of others' spaces, because it doesn't feel good...Instead, I'll be grateful for all that I have, which includes an incredible family, that I treasure more than anything.  Have a good day, and I'll talk with you soon...KatieDscf0424Dscf0421Dscf0423

PS I set up a small 'shipping area" on a table in my basement, which included a box with tissue paper, and "Goldie" my cat, decided that it would make a very nice bed, so she's been sleeping there ever since...Oh well!

Furry Friends and Such

21024000Hi all...Well, I'm very excited, because I've had my first comment left on one of my blog posts!  (Thanks, Jalal...I was starting to feel a little lonely here in blogland:)
This is a photo of my sweet little cat "Goldie".  We adopted her from a local animal rescue outfit, twelve years ago.  We were trying to decide on a name for the little cutie, and my then 5 year-old son, Andy, said he wanted to name her "Goldie."...I told him that I had already had two cats named "Goldie".  He thought about it for a minute, then said, "I have something to say...I've never had a cat named Goldie"...Well, he had me!  That boy is always right, I tell you!
Goldie sleeps right next to my husband at night...I call her his girlfriend...We had lots of cats when I was growing up...We never ever went out to get one...My mom would leave piles of cat food on the front porch, and cats would come and stay...We had seven at one point!

One of the things I love most about animals, is how they just come into your life unexpectedly sometimes.  I've had many furry friends that have belonged to my neighbors...My current list includes "Joe" and "Louie"...Two little rascals that have stolen my heart, along with my catnip.  "Joe" is a big, muscular kitty, with the meow of a small kitten..."Louie" will run full speed across my back yard to see me, and then act like he doesn't know I'm there once he's within a foot of me...Such an actor!

Well, I hope you all are having a good day...Talk soon, Katie
PS I'm working on some cute headbands in some fun fabrics...I will try to post photos on my next entry...I will try to put them on my website too, in case anyone is interested...K

Let me introduce myself...

Hi gals and guys...My name is Katie, and I want to welcome you to my brand new blog!  I've been a faithful reader to many blogs for quite some time, and have finally taken the plunge, and started this blog.  I don't know exactly what this will evolve into, but I hope it will be fun to read. I also hope to meet  some kindred spirits.

One of my great loves is sewing, and of course, fabric.  I make lots of different things, including aprons, pillows, headbands, lavender-filled sachets, skirts, bibs, baby blankets, etc.  I use high  quality fabrics, in gorgeous prints...I suppose you could call my style "cottage/vintage".  I have a website where I sell my things, and I also do a few fairs each year. Thanks for stopping by...Katie

PS My blog, like my website, is named for my paternal grandmother, "Hazel."
